I have almost the exact same shot from when I was in NYC. Did you go downstairs? There's another pretty cool spot to take a picture. lemme see if I can find it. It's nothin special. I took it with a point and shoot so be gentle...
bah I can't find it and unfortunately I have to get going cause I have a few things to do. I'll look more when I get back. NYC is my favorite place ever!
PS I'd love to see that black and white you mentioned for #2

I was gonna say the same thing cept my issue was location cus I was hella far away and forgot my tele lens. The settings will depend on the lens obviously but a shutter of 3-5 seconds should get you a trail and explosion depending on how high they are going.
I used a tripod, the bulb setting, and set the aperture small, so I could leave the shutter open as long as I needed to.
#1 is a bulb setting, ISO 200 and f/18.0
#2 is a bulb setting, ISO 200 and f/14.0
#3 is a bulb setting, ISO 200 and f/14.0

Well, I debated about ordering another 70-200/4 IS after I sent the last one back but decided to try out the 70-200/2.8 non-IS and see how I could handle it. I don't have the best hands for a photog, but I will be mainly using it in bright, outdoor conditions, so I figured I'd try it without IS.
Here are a few shots just from yesterday
A Navy P-3 Orion was doing a flyby right over the house when I got home, so I grabbed my gear and took a few...this was the best. (this was resized down, but also cropped)

Then Mary and I took the dogs to the park ...Mary (my fiance) not really wanting to pose...

Blitz and his crazy tongue

Both of the boys

Mary and the boys

AND MY FAVORITE...I have caught Tyson in some funny shots mid-air before, but this is by FAR my favorite

Anyways, I am extremely happy with the lens. Unless I start shooting in dark situations with the lens, I don't think I will need the IS, so yay me!
