What color should I re-paint my car? Poll Inside
cool, i thought you were gonna take it somewhere to get it painted. if you do it all yourself i could see $400. if you were gonna take it to a shop for $400 i was gonna say your not gonna get a good job.

^hell no you wouldnt get a good job for that. lmao. thats mako paintjob right there.
Also the reason its so inexpensive is because im not matching or using an OEM color. Im taking a plain silver base-coat with coarse metalics, and putting orange candy over it. The candy is only like 70 bucks and gets mixed in the clear, the 2 gallons of clear is whats the most expensive

^whattt!? thats great man. a color change with prep and everything for 700 bucks? When I paint mine im gonna take everything off that I possibly can. Rockers, front and rear lip, grills, door handles, all that ****.
But i decided I really like House of Kolor's Tangerine candy concentrate. That is by far my favorite orange.

Its a shop paint job. So they jus mask off n shoit. Doesnt include a buff or any body work. I had mine primered for a year so it was ready to go. Unfortunateky with white primer, u dont see the imperfections until you shoot gloss on it. They are gonna re do the job next week . Gonna have to block the whole car. Three paint jobs, they shoulda known it wouldnt b smooth. At least itll get fixed. I payed 788$. Included stripping both bumpers so the paint would stick better to the plsstic

lol those pictures do lol. but mine shouldnt really mimic that. The photoshop was just an idea, the cobra i posted is pretty much exactly the color i want
ya, it was vandalized with paint stripper. so it ate through the two coats of paint i had at the time. i kept the money from insurance claim and sanded it, primed it myself. the thing is, i never block sanded it and the white primer covered any of the low spots. but, at least they are gonna fix it for free. i told them what happened and he thot it could be sanded and painted the same day. thats what they did...and they shoulda listened to me.

Definitly going with the metallic orange, and judging by the poll it seems thats by far the most popular choice. Seen a SEM color swatch of the exact materials ill be using, just gotta figure out how im doing the black, I dont wanna leave it just a regular gloss black, gotta keep it original and want to see if I can incorporate the orange from the body into the hood at all.

Buddy of mine painted his blazer thursday. Posted pics in the Painters Thread: i made. Looks great. But made me question if I wanted to now be original and paint my car a different color as now Id be almost the same as him lmao. But I have a question for anybody who painted a cobalt in the past:
Is there any tips or tricks to paint a balt? Like weather stripping removal etc? Can you take it off the rear 1/4 glass moldings or do you have to mask them up. SHould i take the front and rear lip and side skirts off and paint them seperately? (planned on doing this anyways.) Any thing I should know about doing the jambs? Also I noticed the weatherstripping for the rear glass doesnt sit flush where the 1/4 meets the trunk it looks like. Can that stripping be removed or what. lol sorry for all the questions, should be tackeling this project in about 3 weeks. Figured this was some good info

I get started on this tuesday! Hell yesss! 1st thing to get done is to grind the paint off the trunk holes, weld them up, and start to fiberglass this into the trunk:

I love that wing bro. I never fiberglassed something that big before, but im gonna cutout some cardboard and shape it out, then soak it in some resign and start laying some cloth. Gonna need some help with this one lol. But im exited! I have an older guy in my class that just fiberglassed 2 corvette hoods together to get the look he wanted. I can ask him to throw me a hand if I need it. Im ****** STOKED! Im gonna make a thread when i start it and update it as I go.
Anybody know how I can color match the calipers? I was gonna lay down some high temp caliper paint, then paint over that, I heard that works as long as you lay the high temp paint down 1st then your fine, but iv never done that before. See'ing if anyone knows
Edit: found this video on google, this place doesnt apply any high temp paint it seems, they just use regular primer basecoat clearcoat on there calipers. Ill try that out. I can do that easy
