2.2L L61 Fuel Issues
2.2L L61 Fuel Issues
My car seems to be running rich...
Symptoms...
Oil smells like it's flooded with fuel
Very light condinsation on the exhaust pipe
On WOT the smell of burning oil comes and goes quickly
Burning oil, I'm about a quart low right now ( Did an oil change about 2500 miles ago with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic to specs (Roughly 4.5 quarts, usually a tad over).
No Cel Light
What've I've done... Muffler and CAI
I had my valve cover gaskets go bad over winter (Mainly the o rings). So in april when I realized this I did the following.
April 2009...
New Plugs Gapped Correctly
New Valve Cover Gasket Kit
Fresh Oil Change
Car has 36,000 miles and I can't figure it out.
The maf sensor is clean.
No oil leaks are present on the block.
Air Filter is clean.
Cat is fine.
My guess is either Fuel Injector Issue or Tune issue. I hate to think possibly the Valve Stem Seals, but could be.
Any suggestions?

first of all i don't know what owners manual you have been reading but 2.2s take a full 5 quarts to fill. unless of course you don't drain the pan fully.
and my oil usually smells a bit fuel-y but i don't think thats a problem.
as for the slight condensation on your exhaust tip i would say thats normal, usually happens to me too when the exhaust gases are hotter than outside temperature.
as for the smell during WOT, mine did that when i had just put my intake on during the winter and it was still in short ram configuration, i passed it off as intake oil burning or something to do with the intake, and since i changed it to full cold air i haven't had that smell since.
so i dont know man. my oil smells like fuel right now. i dont think that's cause for concern, but i would still check all surfaces of your oil pan and check to see if the drain plug is as tight as it should be.
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT i remember seeing somewhere, i think it was *************** that there was a TSB about 2006 2.2s having an injector casing or something creating a tiny hairline crack which causes a fuel smell.
i believe it is TSB # 06090
not too sure though
or try NHTSA#10021097
one good thing about that TSB is that its a voluntary emission recall, which means its government related, iirc.
