2008 SS Slight Ticking Noise & Steering Wheel Shake!

So I just bought a 2008 Cobalt SS, and when driving it home(110 miles from the dealer) I noticed anywhere 55-70 MPH the steering wheel shakes. But just those speeds - I can not imagine this is normal.

Also, the engine has a slight tick. It has 91 octane gasoline, so i know it is not the knock from octane. I can't imagine this is normal either.

The car is going into the dealership for some paint issues i addressed before i bought it, but I would like to know ahead of time some ideas of what these problems could be... Thanks!!

That makes 2 of us

IDK about the steering shaking. Mine holds up perfect even at 80mph. I believe the ticking is normal (direct injection).

See the post below.

ahh ic. Thank you! Does anyone elses tires look like they are bulging off the rims? the car says the PSI in all 4 tires is 39 PSI and the recommended on the door is 33 PSI, would this cause the car to shake at those speeds?

Once again the ticking noise is the direct injection nothing wrong there.

You should take a quick look at the rims to see if you can see a spot where the wheel weigt might of been,

the noise is normal i thought the same thing. I work at the dealership i called the tech line and they said its normal. as for the tire set the tire psi to spec the lip is to help guard the rim for u scraping it.

I had a shake in my 2.4, dealer narrowed it down to a bad balance, but refused to warranty it, claiming abuse after 4 days of ownership Bad *alignment* might be my fault, but balance should definately be a dealership's problem. I'd take it in and at least ask, hopefully you have a good one. Coming from a guy that went from full warranty to no warranty; use it while you have it.

Nothing like a good old fashioned wreck to fix things, worked for my Firefly too

As for the tire lip I noticed that on my SS/SC, I have 3 Pirelli PZero Rossos with a decent lip on them, but my right rear(the quarter panel that got replaced) is a PZero Nero, is there any difference? The tread looks pretty much the same, just no lip, if it costs me a rim I'll bring pain to the used dealership.

The Nero is an all-season tire, where the Rosso is summer only. It's softer and has less cornering grip than the Rosso. I'd recommend at least getting another Nero for the other side, but better yet to replace all the tires, or the bum one with a new Rosso.

I think 70% of the time if you have a shake is going to be wheels out of balance. 20% of the time it will be tire issues, 10% other! Obviously unless it happens when you are braking then it would be 90% of the time warped rotors, 10% other.
