Wow dude, i'm sorry to hear that. Good thing your still under warranty though.

Can they detect a dead valve/rocker without breaking the engine apart? Is there some remote diagnostic they can do to determine if this is true?

Also darksun, did you have CEL of any kind before it blew?

If I make them break the engine apart and don't find anything, there going to have to charge me regardless of how cool they are. So if theres no way to prove the problem without opening the block, i'm still screwed.

The only sign i had for the whole year was the over boost after swaping through 5 cats and a slight ticking noise in the head. wasn't loud enough to get worried over....guess i was wrong. i know there not gonna be able to fix it....

yeah they can just take off the valve cover.... its pretty easy... but let the dealer do it so they don't void your warranty

Thanks for the heads up man.

Next opportunity i get i'm going to have them look at it. You say it wont take them long to take the valve cover off? Cause if my problem just turns out to be bad wiring to the gauge, then i don't want to have to pay for 4-5 hours of labor.

I think i'm going to get the dealership to do my next oil change/ tire rotation and i'm going to specifically ask them to take off the valve cover before they do so.

The issue is that without significant evidence, they have no reason to do such a significant mod, there basically going off of a stupid 20 year olds suggestion that he learned on the internet.

I told you what they need to check. A cylinder pressure check and/or a leak down test. I'd say a cylinder pressure test will tell them more than the leak down will in this case.

If they don't know how to perform either of those procedures, you need to find a new dealer to service your car.

Pulling the valve cover is something they do if they need to repair the engine. Diagnosing the problem is what they'll want to do first.
