Is 2nd gear "going"?

All of the sudden when i down shift and then today for the first time up shifting to 2nd it hella grinds. Im still trying to figure out why some times it does it and some times it doesn't.

I had just reciently installed a STS but its been in for a few weeks with no problems.

So is 2nd going out or any other ideas??

*Please spare me the "learn how to shift" bs, ive had this car for almost 2 years.*

Thanks in advance, Tim.

I would taken care of asap but im still waiting for my shift knob to come in the mail because right now i just have the stock one pretty much sitting in the shifter and it looks super ghetto. Will the STS be a problem with a dealer????

Begining of rant
This makes me hate this car even more, im paying out the ass for a slow as ****, hubcap sporting, manual everything car!...... I wish my 66' stang was more reliable becuse i would still be using it as a DD......
End of rant.

well see my problem is i have never drive a manual before i bought the car. only tracktors. i hate autos there boring. id go with the bad syncro. not a mech. but that to me would sound right. i hear of alot of problems with these 2.2 cobalts. tho i find it funny 43000 miles and driveing strong yet to have a problem with mine. i put nothing but full synthetic and fuel injection cleaner every oil change. dont know if that helps its any.

on friday ill talk to one of my co workers even tho i work at ford dealer he might say same thing

I had the same thing happen. Eventually it would kick out of 2nd everytime. Take it into the dealer and had to pay for a oem shifter (through the stocker away....opps) to be installed to make sure the shifter wasn't causing the problem (which it wasn't). Hope you kept your stock shifter, it aint cheap from the dealer.

Do you think you could be anticapating the shift and prematurly letting out the clucth before you have it in gear.
If its when driving normally then I would say get it cheked out.
