UPDATE Garage Damaged Rim

What has anyone done and or had luck with when a shop damges a rim. I have 100% certainty that it was caused by Mavis. I bolted on 4 new rims and I brought it to them 2 hours later to have the 2 fronts rebalanced (wheel weights were scraping on calipers) Later that night when I was checking my tire pressure I noticed that there were several deep knicks on both wheels and in the lug nut whole the paint is completely scraped away from their tools on some of these. What have you guys/gals done in the my word against theirs scenario?

Well I got fucked by Pep Boys. Went through the better business bureau, got nothing. So for now I'm just living with a scraped rim. I didn't feel like taking them to small claims court.

I would follow it up like this:

1) Talk to service manager
2) Talk to store manager
3) Talk to district/regional manager
4) Talk to corporate office
5) Better Business Bureau
6) Court

That's exactly what I got too. I just gave up, pissed me off every time I look at that rim but at the time I had too much crap going on to really pursue legal action. Now through work I get legal rep for free, you bet your ass I would have sued them for it. I have pics and everything showing exactly where I think they curbed it.

I always put a spare set of tires on - summers if I'm taking winters in or winters if I'm taking summers in. I find if you take them the wheels/tires OFF the car, they take their time and overall do a better job because you're not taking up one of their bays. I'll usually drop em off and tell em to take their time, get to em when they get to em and call me when they're done. The ONE time I didn't do that is the ONLY time I've ever had damage.

Check the torque on the lugs.
If they did that to them the probably just used the impact gun to put them back on,and if you get a flat you will never get them loose with the tool in the trunk.

a few years ago i brought my dodge stratus to a local tire shop to mount new tires and get a wheel allignment on my 18" niche rims. First, the guy removed all tires from the car. then he started taking off the old tires. for some reason when he took off the third worn tire from the rim he stood up the rim and kicked the rim. I watched my rim roll across the shop floor and slam into the wall. After seeing this i approached the wheel he kicked and from about 10 feet away i saw scratches and major chipping from the chrome. after i threatened the tire guys life his boss immediatly offered to pay from the damage to the rim, and accomodate me with free tire mounting & wheel allignment. now normally i wouldn't expect that much from a business but i outright saw the guy do it and so did his boss. if i had noticed the damage at a later time i'm sure i woulda got screwed.

You'd be surprised how many pounds of force an anger induced adrenaline super stomp kick can have.

I figure this was the case. Dont think I'm going to bother. They are winter rims, so there supposed to kind of get beaten up but still damn. I would of liked them to look new for say a week

UPDATE
I went to Mavis to report the problem. The manager asked what I would like him to do (In a kind serious tone). I told him to just remind the employees to be more careful. He said ok and gave me a gift certificate thats good for one oil change, one 4 wheel balance and 1 computerized alignment. I'm guessing it has a total value of approx $100. I'm happy with this. The rims are going to get messed up anyhow (There winters rims)

this is why i will always take something like that to sears because if you complain they fix it company policy...when i worked there any damage that was reported wether or not it was there when they came in got taken care of so even though i know what kind of winners they have working there[no offense i know a few on here work there, as did i]i know they will own up and take responsibility

They should use a torque stick, 100ft pounds for GM, it will be easy to get off. Even with the wrench that came with the car.

Unless you catch it when you pick it up and before it leaves the lot you are usually screwed because they will probably just tell you that you hit a curb and what is your defense? You are pretty much screwed. If it bothers you enough though, most body shops have wheel repair companies that they work with that can fix them. I don't know what they charge where you are, but in Texas wheel repair companies charge $100-$130 per wheel. You might look into that.
