5th gear isnt in the right "position"

Just curious on how to fix this problem. It seems when i take the shifter to the far right i can go down in reverse, but when i go up to 5th i have to go over to the left about an inch.

Anyone ever come to this issue and know how to fix it?

5th and R aren't supposed to be directly up and down from eachother...i can't really tell from your post how yours are positioned

that's what i thought. i don't see why that's a problem, i hope you're not going from 5th to reverse, or from reverse to 5th but pretty sure that's jsut the way it is. extra safety feature so you don't accidentaly slam it in reverse.

the problem is when i go from 4th i have the tendency to go all the way to the right and it up.... and since i switched shifters when i go all the way to the right, it doesnt go up. I may not have added one of those plastic pieces in that does that? Then again when i popped the damn thing off the whole thing exploded with springs and such.

gotcha. yea, sounds like an install issue. you left those parts out in the first post i thought it was stock

but honestly i'm not familiar enough with this topic to really be of any help. hopefully some of the people that have installed new shifters will take a look.

Kinda funny that this topic showed up tonight. I switched over shift knobs so I decided to get rid of my reverse lock out. When I go from 4 to 5 gear I noticed the same thing. It's nothing to hard to get used to. When I did the same thing with my Cavi I could go from 4 to 5 with no "dead space" at all... Oh well just a minor set back to get used to!!

1) Pull the boot up and take a clear pic of what's down there.

2) There should be a plastic guide for reverse lockout.

3) And you probably need the left cable adjusted.

But take that pic, without that it's REALLY hard to say exactly what the issue is you're having.

Yep, if you get rid of that reverse lockout 5th kinda floats out there. Main reason why I kept mine when I went to the Hurst.

Does the hurst shift use its own lock out or do you need to use the stock one? Reason I ask, mine is all hacked up now!! LOL

i had the same problem and i finally got mine fixed yesterday, just take a small flathead screwdriver and unclip the left clip which adjusts the left and right movement of the shifter, move it in small increments and reclip it and then try your fifth gear and reverse lockout, it can take a while but just be patient and you will get it. If you are moving it in one direction and not gettin any closer to where you should be then obviously go the other direction in small increments.

clip it in small increments? its just a nub with a wire before it.

Sorry for my ignorance but i dont work on transmissions short of the clutch.

yea just unclip the white clip part, move the shifter a little but left or right while in neutral, tighten the white clip back down on the cable, and so forth until you find the sweet spot where fifth gear is all the way to the right and your still able to use your reverse lockout. Its easy once you realize what youre tryin to accomplish but a PITA to do it cuz you might have to try it a dozen or more times to find the right spot.

The Hurst has it's own lever for reverse lockout, but if you want to have a "stop" for 5th and have a guide for the reverse lockout lip to fit over, you have to still have the black plastic piece that's down inside the hole where the shifter goes. What is or is not on the shifter itself doesn't really matter.
