all sorts of front bumper problems and questions
hey everyone,
basically what i am trying to figure out is what the hell i should do with my front bumper. short and simple, its pretty messed up. i bought a 06 cobalt ss/sc in june 08 and the dealer was sneaky and gave me a great deal but didnt let me know about how the car had been in an accident that was NOT on the car fax and they hacked away at the front bumper, front left strut, and left side skirt till the car looked good enough to drive.
anyways, coming from this, the strut was bent, the bumper looks fine on the outside, but the back side of the bumper cover is a total mess of broken plastic and screws that just hang there. i didnt know it was this bad until i put on a new air intake and after moving away the fender cover, just saw a total mess.
the struts been replaced, and i can live with the side skirt for now, but i absolutely want to replace the front bumper, but have a few questions before i do anything.
obvious question, the dealer was from nh, so no lemon law, so nothing i can do about this through those dicks.
1. I have been looking for a black ss/sc front bumper in the classifieds for a bit, but the only person so far wont give his up till he fines an LT front to replace it. Anyone have one they are looking to sell that is already black?
2. Where would be the best place to buy a replacement? Is there anywhere I could get one already painted? Are there any aftermarket fronts that look good on the SS that come painted?
(I really dont want to have to pay to have it painted, its quite pricy and i cant afford it after the initial front purchase)
3. If I were to buy one unpainted, what would be the best way to get it painted in terms of cost and final look? It is black so im figuring it cant be that hard to screw up.
4. The bumper being black, anyone have experience painting any body parts themselves on a black car, and how did it look? If so, what did you do to paint it?
Ugh, any answers are quite appreciated. NEVER BUY USED UNLESS YOU KNOW THE GUY! AND NEVER BUY FROM DEALERS WITHOUT LEMON LAWS ON USED CARS!
btw the dealer I bought from was called Auto Town in Brentwood, NH, if anyone around there ever wants to drive by and slice some tires or break some windows.
