Another P0171 thread

I've been attempting to get my emissions done and failing the readiness test because of this code. It does not throw a CEL but it does read out the code when a scanner is hooked up. What is the cheapest route to get this accomplished. Assuming clearing the codes is the cheapest route, what steps should I take to pass emissions once the code is cleared because I know I cant just drive up once its cleared and call it a day.

If your clearing the code and showing up for the test your drive cycles will also be reset which is why it fails the readiness test.(This is my opinion)
If the cel isnt on the code is in the history and shouldnt be a problem.
The scanner I have shows if the drive cycles are complete and which ones are not.

i havent cleared the code yet. i have a friend that can take me tomorrow to get the codes cleared. so once i get them cleared ill do the drive cycle and see what happens right? or do you have any other suggestions. this fault could be a couple of things. my o2 sensor has been through a lot, but the car seems to run fine. its been on 3 different downpipes. i have a shorty CA v1 header. ive had the car tuned by HPT previously. i also have an aftermarket intake. but the thing im not understanding is why this code shows up on the scanner but it does not throw a CEL.

edit: how easily is the O2 sensor damaged? this thing has been through hell and back. no joke

I had info on the drive cycles but cant find them,Ive been looking for 10 minutes now.
But that paticular code is not common for the 2.4 as far as I know.

Its associated with unmetered air getting in behind the maf sensor but as you say you could be getting a bad reading from the O2 sensor.
Did you check for vac leaks(inspecting the hoses)

what exactly is a vacuum leak. one time my idiotic friend was trying to remove my intake mani and he began to unscrew one of the grey/silver looking metal tubes and it began rapidly hissing and then i ran over and closed it ASAP. i dont know if that is it but it happened.

That would of been your freon for the air con that hissed out ,dont plan on having ice cold air con this summer if you let to much escape.
If you find the air con not working now have the freon topped up.

Back to the vacuum leak. most of the rubber hoses on the engine are vaccum line and if one gets a hole rubbed through it or slightly disconnected ypu could get a lean code.

they should all be fine but ill check tomorrow. ive got my whole bank account on my o2 sensor though. and yes my A/C is gone so that makes sense lol. 2 more questions, 1. where can i purchase a new cheap o2 sensor because at this point its probably just something i should do? and 2. where can i get the freon topped off for cheap?

thanks for your help in advance for at least the A/C part

Hey Im up in Canada and cant help you with that ,but as a general rule I use Oem parts for those repairs Ive had trouble with generic sensors and had to buy the oem part anyway to get a car to run right.
