Avg. Idle readings?

Curious if there's anywhere I can get idle readings (what the tach SHOULD) say for my car (06 LT Coupe). Fighting a misfiring issue for FOREVER now, and the other day, I noticed that when I started my car, the reading seemed higher than normal. (1250ish right at start up, yet she'll run between 500-750 when I'm coming to a stop. Just not sure if these are "normal" readings or not.) Thanks! :-)

It's normal for it to idle higher on a cold start while the engine warms up. I don't know the exact idle speed in the 2.2, but it's likely between 600-800 rpm.

Thanks!! She's right about where she needs to be, from the sounds of things, then. I'm between 1125 and 1250 on a cold start, and anywhere from 625 to 750 on idle at norm. temp. Thanks again. I just noticed the higher cold start and am probably being more than enough on the paranoid edge due to a 6 month ish long misfire issue.

She's not fine, but her idle is. :-) Can't go more than 2 weeks without my CEL coming on with a P0300 for misfires. :-( But that's another issue...LOL.

Yeah, I wish that were my case. She's misfiring so bad that it shakes my car (with no CEL). :-( Been fighting since November, and I'm scared to death that I'm going to totally kill my cat if we can't get her figured out soon.

My woman's car experienced a similar issue where the whole car had the shakes, and it turned out to be a crank sensor. It literally felt like it was running on 2 or 3 cyl. This was on a 2.4 Cavalier.

You're gonna be replacing the engine if you don't get it figured out. Take it in.

Yeah, I tried explaining the shaking, and my wrench didn't buy it til he actually SAW it.

Update: My CEL came on yesterday morning when I fired her up to go to work. I started her up at 430ish am, and it was on. My wrench isn't open on the weekends of course, so I decided I'd wait til Monday and take her in to him. Well, the CEL went off the same day that it showed up. By 4ish pm yesterday, it was off again, after being on when I went to work, on my lunch hour, and when I went home around 3ish. Any ideas???

The code should still be in there even if the light went off. Can you take it somewhere (Autozone) and have it read?
