battery dying
battery dying
Hi, right now my car is being fixed at the body shop but i have to figure out this battery issue asap when i get her back. I have a 750 watt amp a headunit and 4 polk speakers in my car and ever since it was installed my battery has been losing power as the days go by and eventually (every couple weeks) has to be slow charged all day. I need to figure out what is causing this. My first thought is get a better battery but im not sure if that would just make it last longer between charges. my second thought is get a better alternator, but i have no idea if those even exist for our cars or how much they cost. and my third theory is short or something wrong with the electrical somewhere....circuit city has been known to botch installs before..
anyways any knowlage on the subject is appreciated.

have you thought about running a capacitor for your stereo? it makes things a lot easier on your battery and your alternator i have had my stereo for almost 2 years now and have had no trouble with my battery
Sounds like the amp has power all the time, maybe the remote trigger was not wired in right? I would take it back to the installer anyways if the problem only started after the install.
First check the power light on the amp to make sure it powers off with the car. If it's not that, I bet the audio shop drained your battery while working on your car. One good drain on a lead acid battery can permanently kill the battery. Most chain auto parts stores will test it for free.
Drive the car sometimes without the Subs pumping.
Your probably using more juice than your putting back.
Also the battery could be a little weak which normally wouldnt even show up but running the stereo all the time combined with the cold is making it show up.
But incase I would be looking at the amp as a possible problem(not turning offf)

see I thought it was a bad remote too but the amp is turning off with car. so that either means I need a better alternator, better battery, or I have a short somewhere. I wanted to get an optima anyways but an alternator is never a bad idea either. anyone know of any good aftermarket alternators that provide more power charging than stock??
how hard are the alternators on these cars to change? my blazers was exceptionally easy but if im not mistaken these alternators are on the bottom...does that mean I have to go in through the wheel well?
