Belt Screech HELP PLS!!!
Belt Screech HELP PLS!!!
ok, ive gone through 6 belts now. IM starting to get frustrated. Runnin the pb 2.8 pulley and i started out with the ajustable tensioner and the stock belt. Then after trying to fix it a couple of times, i talked to some mechanics and they said it was too lose and was slipping causeing it to glaze and screech. So i talked to some people on line and bought the stage 2 belt and put the stock tensioner back on. But its only been a week and im starting to screech again. Could it really be to lose, if thats the truth why are other people not having issues with it. Before this i talked to a couple of friends and they also said it was too lose cause the belt was ment for the 3.0 not the 2.8 and to put the ajustable tensioner back on the stage 2 belt. Andi considered it but then figured the belt could be too tight and could break if i didnt set it to the right hole. Im starting to get angry, anyone have any ideas
Maybe your installing it incorrectly...seriously.
I ran a 2.7, stage 2 belt and stock tensioner without any issues for over 20k miles. Now, I am running a 2.5 with the same setup without slip. I am, for preventive measures, going to put on a bigger idler pulley or run the meth injection (to tighten the belt among other things
)

Same thing happended to me last year after I was coming back from the track. I could not figure it out until one of the guys we went down with noticed that the belt was off the crank pulley only ONE rib. Check to see if your belt is completely lined up with ALL pullies, not just the SC and idler ones.

Nice put on the 2.5? hows it running?
I would use the smaller belt and adjustable tensioner....

my belt is screeching when i turn the car on and it's idling. I've checked and everything is lined up properly. I lubed up the tensioner, even alternator but it's still there. When the car warms up the screech seems to go away at idle but the second i step on it a bit it's there. I think i might try a stage 2 belt and see if it helps...
Oh, remember all that work with machining the snout for that guy....I went Saturday and put him back to stock. He had oil everywhere...and I mean everywhere...he had it in the intake manifold, the bottom of the plugs, the fuel injectors...he seriously dogged the **** outta his car. After I put it back to stock, I followed him for a bit and he smoked the whole way. He went through a neighborhood at 50+...I was thinking someone is going to walk out in front of him. Anyway, he is selling the car and buying a SRT-4
I think I will...

Lol vultures..
It might not be belt squeek man... you ever remove the snout on the S/C? my friends is doing that now because his bearings are fried.
also if the pulley is not pressed on all the way and the belt is out of alignment you'll get that, also make sure the pulley wasn't bent in on the edges when it was pressed on, I've seen that happen on one car and it was doing the same thing as yours.

Easiest way to check it take the belt off and spin the s/c by hand, if you feel resistance at different intervals or you hear the noise than that is your problem, also have seen it happen from the belt tensioner pulley too.. bearings on that could also be shot.. just gotta double check everything by itself with the belt off.
I tested the snout when it was off and it worked perfectly so I know it's not that. I also checked on the alignment of the belts and pulleys and they are all lined up properly. I think my best guess right now is the belt tensioner. I'm going to remove it tomorrow and put the stock one back one the car just to see if there is a difference. Does anyone know the part number for the larger tensioner pulley from Intense? I may need to buy another one.
