Question Belt slipping....

k, so I'm at 39k miles, with couple bolt ons(intake, dp, exhaust, cp, Trifecta tune) for the last maybe 18-20k.. for the last maybe... 5k miles... My belt has been makin that squeaky sound like its slippin or goin out. Since I'm not a Mechanic.. I had this ASE Qualified manager at my job look at it an he confirmed that yes, my belt is wearing pretty bad, and any, if not all squeaking that I'm hearing is most likely coming from my belt, and that it should be replaced soon..

So I look into it.. I read in the Haynes Manuals for Cobalts, that the Serpentine/Accessory belt on a 2.0l turbocharged engine(LNF) does wear, but shouldn't have to be changed for atleast 100,000 miles?

word...?

well whats this madness about? Should I jus replace it myself an quit bitchin? should I call the dealer an see if they'll replace it under warranty? wat should I do?

Since you're under warranty I'd try the dealer first.

Worst case scenario. Take 10 minutes of your time and a $15 belt and change it lol

is it hard? or time consuming? I'm not worried about actually doin it, an I can get a belt for like ~$18 from Autozone, BUT My ebrake stopped workin the other day 2, and that's somethin else I want to see if its still covered as well.. Cable's still attached an everything

Some belts wear faster than others...39k is on the short end, but not unheard of. I'd get a new one on there, and if it wears prematurely then you may have an underlying cause.

You're more likely to have gotten a bad belt than having something else wrong with the car. I would just replace it, and keep an eye on the new belt for a while. If you see a pattern of bad belts form, then it's time to do some investigating.
