Brembo Brake Question

I am changing over to EBC brake all around on my 2009 Cobalt SS and wanted to see if anyone knew if I would need to use the thin metal back plate (it is a thin metal shim that is between the brake pad shim and the pistons for the brake caliper). I would like to leave it out but I am not sure if it will be a problem later on.
