Broken Key

So last night I reached in my pocket and took my keys out and my car key was snapped I in half. I'm gong to the dealer tomarrow to get a new key, but I dunno how I'm goin to program the new key for the car since I can't move the car until I get a new key. My dad told me to glue the key together and see if I can start the car with it, but I don't want to take the chance of getting the other half of the key stuck in the ignition. Any way has anyone on here programed a key for the car? By using the old key starting the car shutting it off and starting the car with the new key? Does it really work? I'm not looking for people that know people that did it. I want to hear first hand experiences.

You can program a new key to your car. You can do the "30 Minute Relearn" procedure and that should work. I've done it a couple of times for some people. Here are the steps:

1. Insert newly cut key in the ign
2. Turn ign key to "ON" position. DO NOT try and start. Just put it on "ON"
3. Watch the security light and it should go out after about 10 minutes. Might be a little longer/shorter but it should go out.
4. When the light goes out, turn key off for 5 seconds.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 Two more times.
6. After last (3rd) 10 minute session, REMOVE key.
7. Insert key and start vehicle.

Here's a breakdown of what you do:
Insert key, turn to on position, 10 minutes later when light goes out turn key off, leave off for 5 seconds, turn back on for 10 minutes, when light goes off turn key off for 5 seconds, back on for the last 10 minutes, after light goes out remove your key, reinsert key and start car.

If this doesn't work, or you wait too long on either part, you will have to start over again.

Hope it helps

your relearn took about 29 minutes to long. i asked the dealer how to reprogram the key when i broke my last one and he told me to put the unbroken key (im assuming you must have had more than one key for the car) in the ignition turn it to "on" and let the key sit in the ignition for 10 seconds, turn the key back then put the new key in the ignition and do the same as the first time, allowing the key to stay in the on position of "on" for about a minute.

this should work.

You must have missed the part where I said I had no other key.
