Broken Speed-o?
I went to get in my car today after a long vacation and the battery was dead from leaving my radar detector on. So i jumped it following all jumping procedures (Blacks first, my positive, their positive) Now it reads that i'm going over 160 at idle, and just moves up from there. Any ideas, i went to the dealer and they said it'll be $90 bucks an hour to even reprogram the speedo. I was thinking of reflashing the PCM... i dunno any ideas will be helpful...
Thanks guys

The pcm is hard coded in to the chip....unless he got hit by lightning.
this is how i look at it, feel free to correct me.
Just make sure to check the wire that gives the speed to see if it isnt grounded.

i had that happen in an rx-7.. took a pic of it going probably about 50 in 2nd gear so the rpms were high and the speedo was at like 150... made a few of the turbo'd rx-7s go
my problem was the actual gauge though, it was jacked up.

I'm gonna say that the speedometer itself will need to be replaced. If the speed sensor or PCM were reading incorrectly then you would be hitting the fuel cut off. What probably happened was that when you were starting the car when jumping it the speedo just got stuck. Could have been due to a small voltage spike or when it attmepted to zero out the speedo stuck due to a voltage spike. Once the speedo gets stuck and zeros out at 160, the speedo will think that 160 is zero. Not sure how to correct that without replacing the whole speedo though.
I can tell you this for sure... don't pay to have a reflash done because it will not correct the problem.

If you still have bumper to bumper... just go in and say you started your car it it was like that. Then again, lying is a bad thing. Go in there and say you jumped it properly and it stuck like that. That's better.
