Question Bump = Stall?

Ermm... Okay, so as it says in my sig, I'm currently dropped on Sportlines, and I have a solid upper-mount as well as poly trans mounts. That being said, every bump in the road I FEEL, so a rough road can be quite (sc?) hard.

Soo...anywho, driving down the road ~60mph, didn't see that some construction had been done on the road, and the pavement had been scraped/new pavement began, so there was a line across the road i'd guess maybe 3 inches or so direct elevation change in the pavement (ie.... ______|---------- ) like a step up. Lets just say, the sudden thump from my unibody almost made me cry =( but I've hit hard bumps before, so didn't think much of it, except i noticed all of my gauges went to zero!!! while at 60mph!!! lol... quickly realized that I lost power steering, and therefore had somehow stalled. Restarted the engine, and all appears to be good.

Sorry for the long story, just wanted to get the details out there. As i said, everything seems okay, but I just had no idea that this could happen! hit a bump hard enough, and stall the engine? even at such a high speed? Someone who knows this stuff needs to explain it to me lol

betcha anythin the weight of the keys on your key chain yanked the key down out of the run position.

have a good look when your in the car next how it sits, give a little tug on your keychain and youll see what i mean

I know this because it happened to me on a railwaytrack a while back.

I doubt it... my keys aren't nearly that heavy, everyone I know has keychains heavier than mine, I keep it light because I was told its bad for the starter/column thing on my older car.

no one else with ideas?

I've had that happen three times to my ion. Havent taken it to the dealer to check it out. All they can do is ram it into a bump to find out. My guess is that the cars have a week electrical connection somewhere.

this is a safety feature, the cars computer thought you were in a wreck, and shut off the motor to prevent further excelleration. it's happened to me before, ithink it's a good feature.

I had the same issue twice in the same week- once the car stalled and the second time it went into limp mode. It turned out that the crank position sensor had thrown a code. The dealer, like usual, could not duplicate the problem. I, luckily, have not had it happen in a month or so so maybe everything is fine. I hope.

That shouldnt be enough force to trip it though, A crash would generate alot more force. But its a good feature though.

I have seen a couple SS/SC around here. I drive it all the time... but cant right now because I snapped an engine mount bolt when I was installing the TTR mounts.

When I got rear ended my car turned off too. The clutch was in and I was in fourth gear slowing down, I came to a stop then got rear ended, my gauges were at 0, and my foot came off the clutch. Since a push start isnt easily done in fourth gear it let my car have grip and not hit the lady in front of me.
Its a great feature! Probably a pain in the ass for you.

Mine shut off one time, I lost it coming off of a highway exit in rain... Definitely thought I was going to be in an accident on that one, lol.
