Car cut out under throttle

I was leaving my house this morning and lightly accelerated out of my driveway and the car cuts fuel and starts idling really bad. I turned the car off and turned it back on. Lightly accelerated and it did it again. Stop the car. Go again and it only barely does it this time. And keeps doing it but only lightly now. Does anyone know what could be wrong? I'm kinda thinking water in the tank. But it's almost empty and it's been the same gas. All help is appreciated.

Could be contaminated gas, filler up and see what happens.
You could put a bottle of gasline antifreeze in or fuel conditioner to disperse any water in the tank after you fill up.

how many miles are on the car? have you ever changed the fuel filter? fuel system treatment will kinda clean a bad filter and help the car run fine for a while if the issue comes back I'd change the fuel filter especially if you have over 40,000 and have never changed it in the 15k-20k mile recomended service intervals.... just a thought
