Battery. The guy at autozone does not know ****. Either that or your alternator is DOA.

same thing happened in my work van... battery died.. so we recharged in and i went on my business.. just for everything to shut down and leave me stranded.. we got a new battery from autozone and installed it in my van.. and put the meter on it.. it was the alternator.. so if your battery had a little charge in it.. it's probably the alternator.

If you can get the car running again......check the voltage at the battery when it is running. If you are getting 14.4V your alternator is good and it is your battery.

To me it sounds like the battery......and not the alternator. Do you have a huge stereo in your car? If you do......upgrade to a yellow top Optima or another high end gel cell battery.

Well your battery is close to being dead. So either it can not hold a charge, or is not being charged.

All the lights illuminate when you first turn the key to let you know if they are burned out. Since its not starting the battery, low oil pressure, etc will stay on. I have a feeling its the alternator. Once the voltage drops to low in the battery the enigne will turn off, but other things may still run on the remaining power. I would test the alternator first.

Ya know...Back in the day

We'd just unhook the positive cable from the battery while the car was
running and if it shut off, we knew the alternator was bad. If it kept running
then the battery was bad.

Things are so complicated these days

autozone should be able to test your alternator.

I could have told you that it was not the battery, even is a battery goes out completely the alternator would keep it running just fine, if it is just the alternator running, it could burn out or something, but that was not the case for you cause you had just turned it on, right?

It is probably the alternator ( i doubt this, it may be a fuse), just try fixing the cheapest things first.

ya but most battery checkers only check one cell of the battery. if one of the other cells isn't working properly and your using one of these battery testers it will say its ok when in actuality its not. i would take a battery from a car that you know is working from a friend or family member and put that in your vehicle and see what happens since you say your a little short on cash at the moment. then that way you can be positive if its the battery or not. i deal with testing batteries all day long at work.

If your car was running and stalled it, it's definitely not the battery.

Your car doesnt need a battery to run. Only needs it to start.

From what I see, the alternator is the culprit. My car died when it was just the alternator, fuel thing went empty first, then BOOM! Car fully dies while i was at a light.

also, check the connection at the starter motor for it to make sure it's nice and tight on there good..

buy :

new battery (cheapie from wal mart, just to play it safe) and an alternator from vatozone

Sounds like the Alternator....

Mine went bad in my Grand Am... when I put on my blinker the stereo would go off!

But she kept running until I had to left off the gas for traffic. SO the key is going to be to keep your foot on the gas when you shift! Just don't let go of that pedal!

Hope you still have warranty!

go somewhere that has a midtronics 500xl tester. It will test bat, starter, dipple diode, and alt..on load and no load....that is the correct way of doing it. Any shop with an ACDelco sign in Houston has one.
