I have an 07 2.2L LS. Im from Chicago and my car is parked outside all the time so the cold has definitely been causing me problems. Today, I went to go start my car and it took a second longer to start than it usually did, and it just didn't feel right. I didn't want it to stall on me when I was at the gym so I turned it off a minute later after letting it run, and then tried to crank it over again.

It does not turn over now. It just makes a whining noise while I'm holding the key turned and nothing happens. All my dash lights work, my brights work just fine, so I don't think it is the battery, but I'm not sure. It just sounds like its winding and winding and winding but it never turns over. I had the battery replaced a few months ago.

Any ideas?

 

Sounds like the starter solenoid is not engaging the gear to the flywheel
