Cd Err + Lock Issues
Cd Err + Lock Issues
I have a 2005 Base Pursuit and I've had the cd/radio issue where the message ERR and LOCK would appear on the screen.
I've had the car in 5 times(!) and this time they said they have replaced the unit yet again but the reasoning why the issue is happening is this: because I am using burned cds that the issues are happening!
That is just unacceptable! The dealer is saying that b/c the copied discs are used, they are scratched up and are flaking into the unit and causing the issues.
Has anyone else been told this from a dealer? I find this rediculous and I don't really anywhere in the manual saying not to use burned cds.
I will be picking up the car later tonight (it's not ready yet) but I wanted to post this to see if anyone else has had this issue...
Anyone care to comment??

I've brought in the car to 3 different dealers over the 5 times that I have brought in the car.
This is crazy.. I believe this may call for a message to GM Canada directly regarding this situation.
anyone else have any comments?

Obviously an aftermarket stereo would correct the problem...
but why should I have to if the stereo is faulty?
Also, I have leased this vehicle so I don't see why I should have to purchase an aftermarket stereo just to play burned cds...
Am I wrong in my thinking?

you can always buy an aftermarket and when its time to return the car just swap them out
When I took my car in cuz the CD player wouldn't eject, they asked me if I was using burnt CD's. I was like yeah where else am I gonna get mp3 CD's from. The Service advisor then tried to tell me I was breaking the deck, "Delco decks don't like burnt discs". In the end they replaced it warranty, I guess my point is keep trying different GM dealer's till you find one that isnt filled with retards. Im on my third one.
I have never had any problems with using any burnt CDs in my head unit.
As for them complaining of "flaking".... CDs do not "flake" unless the top of the disc were being scraped... and it would take a lot of pressure to strip the dye off the disc. Just by scratching the disc with your finger it is pretty hard to scratch off any of the dye. So if the disc is being scratched causing the dye to flake off it would happen on ANY CD, since the dye placement on CD-ROMs is the same as on CD-R and CD-RW which means that your store bought CDs would be getting ruined as well. The dealership sounds like they are just trying to get out of having to replace the radio.

I've heard that too that burnt cd's cause more problems. I can't really see why though. I've never had any problems with burnt cd's in my Cobalt. Unless they can give you some REAL reason why your burnt cd's are causing problems, I'd keep looking for a dealer who will fix it for you. I would not buy a new one for a leased car.
The burnt cd thing is a line of crap, My radio had problems with a regular cd, I think there is a post some where on here about it, I had this problem and the dealer supposedly reprogramed it, I haven't had any problems since, but I heard people eventually having the radio replaced with the base radio from the 06's becuase the reprograming didn't work.
