CEL after ******* friends

I was at a party and some ASS drives right up to my balt, literally touching it, the rear had pressure on it. I checked it out and it looks like it was barely even a love tap, just dust. But then I get in my car and see the CEL which I did not have before. I drove around the block then thought to check the cap. It was loose, very loose. Hopefully nothing was put in their. Would the car be able to tell immediately that something was in the tank or does the light just go off if you drive with the cap loosened?

I guess I'm going to go to the dealship and get it checked out.. I wonder what a Rav 4 would look like after I tow it and drop it down a ravine.

Probably like a Rav 1...would def. be a lot smaller... i do believe that if the gas cap is off/loose, you will get a CEL due to the system being pressurized and what not; hence, the low pressure reading and CEL. It SHOULD go off after you drive the car for a bit, or park it and leave it. I would def. take it to the dealer and have it checked out, or at least give it a thorough once-over for funny smells or strange things (i.e. sugar, etc.)

I doubt that something was put in it, but you never know. It can take around 60 miles for the computer to reset itself by driving around. I don't know if you start and stop a few times if it will clear quicker or not.

It's for emissions. If you drive with the cap loosened the system will sense this, and since there are emissions laws preventing open venting of a gas tank (Which is why we have a system that stores and burns excess vapor) a CEL will be set.

Thats what I assume happened. Doesn't mean I hit any softer. I have put on ~46 miles since I first saw the light in about 6 separate trips and the light is still on. If it truly was just a prank like that how much longer will the light stay on?

Yeah i watched that episode to. But some little vandals put sugar in my friends Tundra and didn't have any affects right away but about a week later it started messing up. They had to tear apart and clean the entire system. So I am not so sure that is a myth.
