Charge for warranty work?

Hey everyone ... I'm bringing my car in to the dealership soon for a few things... Steering wheel not centered, car clunks on small bumps and when turning the steering wheel when not moving and there is a sound that I feel in my pedal too and it happens when I'm cruising and let off the gas and glide and it feels like its stopping me a bit and a droning sound...

.... Anyway my question is , when I bring to dealership for these problems , will I get charged a service fee just for them to look for these problems or if these problems are not under warranty

... Btw I have a 7 year 70,000mi extended warranty and have about 63,xxx mi on car now

Thanks everyone.

All you have to do is ask. Hello mr service writer, before you take my car in to work on it, I'd like you to explain to me the charges that I can expect to incur.

perfectly reasonable to ask, and any of of them would give you a perfectly reasonable answer.

And then tell them that if anything not discussed happens to come up, a previously unidentified repair comes about, please give you the courtesy of a phone call before they do it.

Also perfectly reasonable and most any place would make the call.

Okay I just wanted to make sure bc I feel like I remember them charging me 100+ for them to just look at the car regardless of warranty or something so I want to know goin into it this time

Yea it's probably wear and tear but the steering wheel not centered happened after I brought it in for the power steering recall just haven't had time to bring it bak in ... And the clunks I read that GM sued the supplier of the steering rack/column and intermediate steering shaft bc the parts were causing clunks and they had to replace alot of them so well see

I've had the dreaded "diagnostic fee" from the local dealer to read a code on the BCM for me. None too pleased by that, but I knew up front about the fee and I made the decision. Always ask before you hand over the keys. "What will the potential charges be, and if anything changes on that please call first, here is my cell number"

Yep that's the fee....is that something different dealers decide on or is that a universal few all dealers do?

Charged me 98 dollars to check the code in the BCM and tell me that I needed a new brake light switch, that it's build into the brake pedal assembly and will be $500 plus labor to repair.

To which I replied: Or maybe the 3rd brake light that I can't see from the driver's seat, is out. The one that didn't light up when your guy stepped on the brakes on his way into the shop.

And a BWD S37021 is like $25 bucks. So where's the $475 extra come from?

genereally you should approach them as if its a solid warranty issue. Say simply, my steering is feeling "mushy" or some junk. Well its their duty to diagnose the entire steering system and make sure the entire car checks out lol. THey willl find a lot of extra things wrong at that point, maybe.

People need to know, dealing with warranty claims is like dealing with police, or a lawyer, keep your effing mouth closed. I know this isnt always the case, but id say %80 of the time, it is. lol

one of the reasons I hate them...lol. Was going in cuz my tcm is fried and all they told me is "your tcm is bad" -_- I know that I had told them that was the reason I was bringing it in lol. Well anyways...they wanted to charge me $400 to replace the tcm and reprogram it because it was going to be about 3 hours of labor lol. I almost flipped my **** at that point. I walked the guy to my car and asked him if it really took their techs 3 hours to pull the tcm and put a new one in while showing him how to do it lol. Doesn't even take 30 secs to do it smh.

Lesson....dealerships can die

Unfortunately that's the way it is some time. Dealing with the Chevy dealer here is absolutely an adversarial activity. I avoid going there if ever possible and when I do I feel as though he's a crooked cop and I'm a guy doing 50.5 in a 50. It's just horrible.

The Chevy dealer I was dealing with up in Washington wasn't like that at all. I got spoiled, I guess.

This is basically what dealing with a dealership is like.
