Check Engine Light After Oil Change?

Before I changed the oil and oil filter in my car today, the check engine light was NOT on. The dash didn't say "change oil soon" either because I change it every 3,000 miles and my indicator comes on at 5,000 miles. I've changed my own oil many a time before and never had this happen. After I made sure everything was secure as usual I started the car and let it run the new oil through and checked the dipstick a few times. It read with plenty of oil. I went back in to turn the key off and noticed the check engine light never turned off. (My old car used to do this but it would shut off after a few min at idle). I shut off the car, waited awhile and checked the dipstick again, still plenty of oil. I started it up again awhile later and let it idle for awhile and made sure to listen for strange sounds, anything unusual. Nothing different! Light still never went off even after I backed it out of garage and moved it out to the driveway. Could be nothing, could shut off after a drive to town, but it's strange that it's never done this before when I've changed the oil and filter. I think I covered everything to hopefully get some help! Thanks everyone!

Gotta find out what the codes are if the check engine light is on. Autozone or advance auto parts should be able to scan the computer for free. Then we can make a further diagnosis.

I only know this because i forgot to tighten my oil drain plug . Yes lol and lost all my oil down the road. Plug didnt come out till about an hour of driving. But there is a oil ibdicator that lights up, flashes and dings rapidly when it runs out.

So i dont think its oil related. You got a code that happen to pop up after the change

Yeah I definitely will go to either or and get it checked out since it still hasn't shut off. Better to be safe than sorry. Thanks!

I initially thought of that too, but I'm pretty sure it's on there tight (but you never know!) Either way I hope that doesn't happen to me! Thank god for the automatic shut off if that happens. I'm going to go get the code checked out later today and see what pops up.

What I found is 4th is SUPER weak if not shifted correctly.

If you max third out and have a good WOT shift to 4th (which is around 120 mph) its great.

But if you have partial shift into 4th and give her hell then it revs out without going anywhere and after a little bit it will kick to 3rd. Basically its slipping 4th bad. Its just weak somehow.

But thats me being supercharged...not sure what you have done.
