Check Engine Light HELP
Check Engine Light HELP
So my check engine light came on in my 2005 cobalt ss/sc and I went and had it scanned and it was a lean code. The gm mechanic told me that it needs to be re tuned. He said gm gave an updated tune to fix this lean problem. Has this happened to anyone else. How much did it cost to have it re tuned.
You should of had that code along time ago if its just stock and had the pcm updated under warranty.
The service manager can look it up if you had it done when it was brought in for service for something else before.
I would be looking at all your vac line etc if its a 2005,the way they are ran im sure thats what it would be.
Check the crankcase vent hose first that goes from the valae cover to the intake, then maybe the one that goes behind the pcm.
if you see any rub marks that look like they may be right through replace them or tape them up good and see if the code goes away.
Found this for you.
Also do a sure there are alot of posts on this subject.
Theres a sticky at the top of this section on posssible causes !
On rare occasions, a SES light may be experienced due to a P0171 DTC. This DTC could be a result of an unseated oil dipstick or air intake snorkel, which can cause the engine to draw in air that is not metered by the MAF sensor, resulting in a P0171.

if there is a PCM update for your car, your dealer will do it for free. Just setup an appointment. GM isnt going to charge you for something like that. you definately have 0 issues since you are stock. If you had an intake I could see them being ****** about it.
search for p0171. this topic has been discussed literally 100's of times, and there's nothing that anyone can say at this point that hasn't been said. so put p0171 in the search bar, and you'll find answers to any question you have.
