well first things first

Did you check the gas cap?

Can also be an issue in the evap system.

I don't remember if the 2.2 has an evap purge selenoid on the manifold.

Well on most Cobalts this will be one of the following:

Bad gas cap
Gas cap not tight (3 clicks minimum)
Evap purge selenoid by the engine
Evap vent valve by the gas tank.

Are you getting any check engine lights? Codes?

If you ran it with a loose gas cap. Tightening it wont get rid of the CEL. fix the cap, then clear the cel, then start it up again.

I see you've already gotten great feedback on this post. If you were to work with a dealership in the future on this or another vehicle concern and wanted assistance in the process, please don't hesitate to send me a private message with more information.

Best,

So you checked all of these? Start with evap purge selenoid.

Bad gas cap
Gas cap not tight (3 clicks minimum)
Evap purge selenoid by the engine
Evap vent valve by the gas tank.

Are you getting any check engine lights? Codes?

Sorry to necropost, but...

I've replaced the gas cap, the purge solenoid on the engine, and the evap valve by the gas tank. I'm still getting the "Check gas cap" warning.

Is there anything else it could be?

Did u clear the code and see if it comes back? Or are u just waiting for it to clear itself?

There's no point in clearing the code when the "Check Gas Cap" error message keeps coming back, causing it to throw the code again.

The "Check Gas Cap" warning seems to come up roughly when I'm at 3/4ths of a tank of fuel.

What other parts do I need to throw at this problem? Maybe a worn or cracked hose somewhere?

I keep on getting the Check Gas Cap message on my IRL, and I've replaced the purge solenoid underhood and vent valve by the gas tank.

I seem to get it when the gas levels drops from a full tank to 1/2 to 3/4 left.
