Clinking Noise from driver's side axle area
Clinking Noise from driver's side axle area
About a week ago I started noticing a clinking or "pinging" noise coming from my drivers side axle area whenever I am in first gear either in reverse or just starting off from a light or a dead stop. It is not the sound that you hear when metal is cooling off or heating up I know what that sounds like and this is not it. It almost sounds like the axle or something nearby it is being stressed too much and letting out a very noticeable dinking sound whenever the car is under acceleration in first gear or whenever I let off the gas in first and the engine moves in the motor mount. I do not hear it once I get up out of first gear and performance is not affected in the least. It is starting to get worse and more noticeable and I am have seen several other threads with the exact same problem but someone always just blames it on exhaust heating up or something to do with an exhaust leak and no one has ever said in the other threads after taking into the dealership if they ever said what exactly is wrong with the car... If anybody has had this problem and gotten it fixed please chime in and let me know. The car is still under warranty so it shouldnt be a big deal unless they try to pull the abusing the car bullsh*t on me.
UPDATE Dealership says it is the lower control arm....We will see after tomorrow whether or not it really is...

Pinging noise!!
I have the same problem i think? Whenever i slap the gas and let off quickly, or downshift and drop the clutch, i get a clinking noise? They cant figure out what it is, and i was told it could be something to do with my callipers! Hope this helps a bit!
I hope you're joking.
hey guys im new at this forum thing so forgive me if i do something wrong. quick intro, im a proud owner of a 06' ss stg2.anyways i also hav the clicking noise, i took it to the dealer and they were "unable to duplicate." the service writer who also has a ss with the noise said they replace alot of things but after they replaced the axles the noise went away. i guess when u work their they duplicate the noise. im out of warranty now so i hav to live with it. i recommend when u take it to the dealer go on a drive with the writer or the techn that way they wont pull that bs "unable to duplicate" that they did on me.
I had a similar problem with mine but it was a more of a clunking sound and also took it to the dealership they found that a control arm bushing was bad and fixed it. However it only eliminated the clunking for a couple of hours before it started to do it again. I haven't taken it back in again yet. I'll wait until I have a list of complaints for them lol. Also a while back I had another sound coming from that area that sounded like a small piece of tin hitting metal and tried forever to get the dealership to figure out what it was and finally when my horn went out and they had to replace it they noticed my wheel well was loose and tightened it up and it solved the issue

You know I was thinking it could be something as simple as a loose wheel so im gonna go hit it up with a tire iron and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for the suggestion. You think that with this many people reporting problems about the same thing GM would issue an announcement or recall or something...
i too have that clicking noise, i mainly get it when taking off in revers on steep hills or in 1st gear for that matter. See if you can find a steep hill, throw it in revers and try to back up the hill, i can duplicate it that way everytime. If so, then you can tell the dealer to try the same thing. I'm calling chevy tomorrow to schedule an appointment
yup that is what i thought cause mine does it as well. has done it since the day i bought it home...i have 22k on the car now and no problems SOOO it seems to be something relatively common...its not like my dealer would be able to find it even if there WAS a problem lol
