clunk in the rear?

im about to take the balt over to the stealership tomorrow to get some bumper to bumper work done before 36k. first, im going to get my interior door handle re-wrapped in that shitty chrome tape thats peeling off and bubbling but for the second thing im kinda wondering how i should approach it.

so i have after market 18" rims and tires not the 15" steelies that came on it and i hear this clunk in the rear everytime i back out of my driveway. it sounds almost like a creak and it even happens sometimes on large bumps (speed bumps). first of all has anybody had this problem or know what it could possibly be? second, will the stealership fix it even tho i have oversized wheels, or should i switch the steelies back on before i go? lastly, what would my argument be if i did take it in with oversized wheels and they refuse to repair it?

woah long rant but any help would be appreciated!
thanx in advance

bump! 4 views? maybe i just had a crappy title...

I have a similar issue. I get a loud creaking from the right rear area when the body is subjected to twist (hard cornering or driving diagonally over my driveway curb). It sounds like it is in the right c pillar area (I have a sedan). I am sure it is some sort of suspension component or mounting point.

Any ideas guys?

well the clunk I am sure is your exhaust, because it really can't possibly be anything else in the rear.. mine does it too, but only because my exhaust is hitting my axle beam.

I have the same noise on the passenger side. To me it sounds like the seat belt retractor in the B pillar maybe the C. It's hard to tell.
It sounds like metal hitting metal.
It's only when hitting a bump hard on the right side.

I can't figure out where it's coming from and it bugs me.

I had the dealer check it out when i had the oil changed and the PS recall done.
They tightened the heat shield for the fuel tank. But i still hear it just as loud.

I'm getting this too only it seems to be coming from the front. It sounds like my springs being compressed under stress

same damn problem and i REALLY want to know what the answer is....some people say its the strut bolt not torqued in well enough, read something about rear suspension insulators too...stealership gave me the typical bull **** when i brought it in "oh its cause you have aftermarket springs/struts/wheels blah blah blah"

put steelies on to avoid an arguement... if it is body flex as someone mentioned... check the tops of yoru doors and body for wearing. i have small paint spots worn off im assuming from body roll on my sedan... paint is worn down to steel now... you;'ll see rub marks on the top edge of your door near the center pillar and also on the body where the top of the door flushes up. it should be warranty.

Defiantly put your stock wheels on they can be ******. I have been declined transmission work on my saturn cause i had 17" rims on the car. They could find something else wrong with drivetrain/ suspension that you don't even know about and blame it on the rims.
