Clutch burning, the how tos

the other day i was stuck in traffic. shifting 1st, 2nd, back to 1st, ride the clutch a bit, back to 2nd, neutral, coast a bit, back to 2nd. well you guys get the idea. on my past cars i would ride the clutch most of the time. at lights i would hold the pedal down etc. i have broken these habits with this car. i was wondering what is the fastest way to kill a clutch ( so i can avoid doing so )? thanks again peeps!

take it to 7000rpm and ride the clutch in 4th gear as slow as possible. That will preaty much nuke a clutch guarenteed

nope.. its warrantied for 3/36,000miles (3/60,000km).. as long as the flywheel doesn't have hotspots.. they will replace it under warranty free of charge, including all parts that work in conjunction with the clutch.. eg. throw-out bearing, pressure plate, pilot bearing etc. etc..

if the clutch is burnt out from lack of skill or so, the flywheel will discolorwhere it got really hot.... these are what is known as hot spots. If they see these they figure it was your fault the clutch is gone already due to abuse, or lack of skill and wll not replace it

Don't bet your money on that one. They can just claim abuse and void it. They can also claim its a wear item and it won't count.

Yeah it would be $500 dollars +parts to replace on on our balts, or for most vehicles at that.

My dealer told me the clutch is not under warnity. I'm not sure but I guess they got some kind of memo on this. If that is true that pisses me off.

^^ no doubt, one question though, off the line, what rpms you usually float around? i float around 900-1500 rpms most of the time. and give it about 1-2 seconds inbetween shifts for the engine to slow down. Ive figured it out...from 1st to second...about half the rpms (as in go to 4000, then re-engage at 2000 cause thats when the clutch and engine speeds match each other)...the rest is fine. that 1-2 is the biggie though.

thats about right. dont believe the ss s/c guys dont have the shift light like us 2.2 do. tells me to shift around 3000 rpms. but if i need the power i ll go further. no more then 6000 rpms ( 7000 i m in the red line-but i belive again the ss s/c is different in this area not to mention the stage kit)
