Clutch Grenaded.. WTF!?

About 1500kms ago I had GM install a new sleeve and piston in Cyl #4 under warranty.. They fixed it and all seemed to be good, or so it seemed. Pulling onto the highway last night when I went to shift into third it wouldn't go in so I tried fourth, still no dice. Keep in mind the engine is still in break-in so I was only shifting around 2500rpms. So i pulled the car over and it wouldn't go in to any gears. I got out of the car and could smell a faint clutch smell so I got back in, put it in first, started it and limped it about 5kms to the GM dealer and left it over night. Today they call me and tell me it's my clutch(it wasn't slipping at all on the way to the dealership and it's never slipped on me, it just wouldn't disengage.) They said it's considered normal wear and tear and it wouldn't be covered under warranty. So I got a little skeptical and took it to the local tranny shop. I figured the slave had stopped working or they didn't bleed the clutch well enough and an air bubble was still in it. Tranny shop calls me about an hour later telling me that chunks of clutch fell out of the inspection plate when they pulled it off. They suspect improper installation of the clutch or something got bent when GM did the bottom end. So I call GM back and inform them of what I was told. GM proceeds to tell me that they never separated the tranny from the block when they did the sleeve.

How the hell do you replace a sleeve without removing the crank which is bolted to the flywheel!?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This clutch has not been abused.

because the sleeve is pressed in. it does not have to be removed from the car

How would they removed the original sleeve without pressing it out?

A power piston sleeve puller will remove the sleeve with out taking out the block kind of like a pulley puller with reversed claws.

Certainly does. I may be heading to Cornwallis tomorrow to make an offer on that TC.
