clutch problems

So i buy this preowned 06' cobalt ss. its beautiful and all is good. it only had 15000 miles on it when i bought it so i dont have to worry about anything stock going bad for awhile, right? Thats no the case, however. So im driving on christmas eve to go get some food and all of a sudden my car is acting weird barely moving when i out it into first. so i manage to get up this hill in first and try to shift but nothing happens. i shift back down to first and thats now gone. so im drifting along out of gear and no hope. i manage to pull it over and sure enough no amount of coaxing is getting this going anywhere. so where did i spend my christmas eve, getting somebody to tow my ss. I pray this isnt the clutch concerning i only put 6000 miles on it myself. what kinda crap is this when i cant even make it over 6 months without a problem. this is going to be an awesome holiday season.

Something similar happened to me. Pop open the cupholder and make sure everything is locked in place before you get under there and start fooling around. I took mine out to clean while I was waiting for a buddy to pick me up and one of the cables came loose and wouldn't let me grab any gears. Popped it back into place and haven't had a problem since.

does the shifter feel normal??? if it does (feels like its going into gear) then you can rule out the shifter, cables, roll pin, ect. did the car exibit any problems like a slipping clutch before this happened???

either way, the car should have some warrenty on it, take it to the dealer and see what they say. if you are firm (not yelling/pissed off) and explain to them that you bought it used and only put 6k miles on it, they may pay for half the bill. clutches are a wear item, wont be covered by a gm warrenty, however like i said, the dealership you bought the car from may kick in for it.

That's a good point. It won't be covered by warranty (which is obvious) but the dealer may be nice enough to foot some of the bill. Just don't be a dick when you talk to them.

Dude if the guy who owned it before you abused the clutch because he didn't know how to drive it that could cause you problems. It's almost a sure thing that it's the clutch judging be your description. I have a friend who works at the local dealership and he said he's seen people go through clutches in about 5000 miles. He said he had one person go through 3 clutched in about 15,000 miles just because they didn't know how to drive it. I'm not saying it's your fault but perhaps the guy who owned it before you was a tool and couldn't figure the clutch out...
