Cobalt 2005 coupe doors wont open

I have the passenger side door panel off, I got that off from the inside. however I still can get the door to open. Im new at this and cannot afford to take it to a mechanic. i can afford to buy the parts but I am wondering how do I get the door to open since I have the inner panel off? This is a coupe and I think the latch may be rusted or something on the otter part of the door is rusted. Please help!

Well first place you gottha look is the actual door release cable and see if that is broken. If thats in good shape, then check the lock make sure thats functioning properly. In some cases the latch can break in such a way that you gottha break the door off. Happened to a mechanic at my shop he had to use an air hammer to break the lock off, and then he had to get a new door.

Is the outside door handle floppy loose?
Try taking some weight off the door latch by pulling up on the door as you try to open it.
Is the door actually unlocked?check the locking mechanism to see if its operating properly or work it by hand.

should be able to reach inside the door down to the actuator assembly where the latch is in the back and move one of the pivot points to get it open. usually the inside release cable jams half way open and jams the lock mechanism. slide it back down and it should open.
