Cobalt DOWN!!!!!

Well just got another dreaded phonecall from Mike (trix)
Car started sputtering and died, coolant coming out of the back of the motor, exhaust, and it won't crank.
Let start the bidding
A: Cracked cylinder
B: Blown head gasket
C: rod through the block
D: other

I haven't seen the car yet, and he's still on the side of the pkwy, so I won't know the real failure til later tonight, but lets start the guessing game.

definitley A

hypothesis:

blown headgasket seaped water in to cylinder blowing a piston and thus cracking/gouging the cylinder wall.

could be both head+cylinder in other words....but catastrophic failure none-the-less

Your friend is stranded and you are on here posting instead of going to help him?

I work in Manhattan man, woulda taken me at least 1.5 hours to get out there. tow truck came and scooped him up while I was still at work. But I talked him through it on the phone at least lol.
But I am still stumped on what happened.
Brand new Cometic head gasket, brand new Golden Eagle head studs, Him and his father ended up putting the motor together, I was just there to do the teardown and set the timing really,.
Only real thing I can think of is, the head got warped somehow, but that wouldn't explain why it ran with no leaks for weeks.
OR, his father didn't think the rod bolts would take 65ft/lb so they were only tq'd to 45ft/lb. but I won't know til I actually look at it. But there is definitely coolant coming from the front and back of the block, and out the exhaust, so it does sound like a head gasket problem, I dunno I'm gonna call him in a bit and see what he found out so far.
