Cost to Replace Timing Chain Tensioner?

I think my timing chain tensioner is going bad, after reading countless threads on it.

Has anyone had it replaced if not under warranty? and if so how much did it cost?

How many miles on your car ? That should fall under the 5/60K mile powertrain warranty .

Yep , as long as it wasn't totaled ... it shouldnt matter is your the 10th owner or not . The factory warranty stays with the car until it runs out , even when bought used. Good luck

fail- the 5/60k warranty is non transferable. i have this exact problem, took it in with 39k on the clock, and they said that i didnt have coverage because the 5/60k only works with the first ownder. now he 3/36k is transferable! hope this helps. and if you have the noise, most likely you will have to replace the whole assembly, not just the chain.. just my .02

Did you call GM customer service? Even the newer 5/100 powertrain warranty is transferable...hell you dont even transfer it, it stays with the car . Did the dealer know that the cobalts have a 5/60K factory warranty? Or did they think it was a GMPP warranty.

Same Problem

I have the same problem. Engine started making clanking sound like something was stuck inside so took it to mechanic who said the timing belt tensioner on the lower belt was loose/broken and recommended also replacing the top one total cost $700. Had to remove the top and side panels of engine to get to it. Also, 2006 SS not covered by warranty (have 43,900 mi on it).

If I was you, I'd call GM directly and have them add you as the owner of the car in their records. At that point, ask them if the 5 year/60k powertrain warranty is still in effect.

I see nothing in my warranty booklet for my 2006 G5 GT stating that powertrain is covered for the original owner only.
