Cracked tranny casing?
OK WTF...
I am lying under my car about to change the oil... checking over everything first for anything out of the ordinary. I notice the bottom/side of my tranny casing is SOAKED with oil, and seems to be leaking What the ****?
Should I bring it to the dealer and see what they say? I know a lot have had to worry about voided warranties and stuff but I was just seeing if this was the issue first.
Pics... is that a crack by the black thing? I felt it with my hand and it sure seems like it...

Its a dark color. It looks like its leaking from where the axle mates to the transmission (driver side). If the tranny casing was cracked wouldn't I be losing clutch fluid and my clutch would be slipping? My clutch grabs really hard so its leading me to believe the axle seal is leaking. Should be a simple warranted fix (I hope).

Haz l33t wheelz.
no the clutch has its own lines, and the fluid is inside your master cylender. You may just have a bad output seal. If you have a warrenty still, this sounds like something they should take car of.

Yeah... its leaking right from where the output shaft connects to the transmission. When I first saw it my heart sank, I was like NOOOO!!
I'll have to hit up the dealer one of these days. No biggie.

^ like pauls says it happens a lot on pretty much any vehicle with halfshafts. Humvees are a bitch about it, the ******* blow a seal every 3k miles like clockwork.
doesn't sound like a cracked case, again, look really closely at it, and then have the dealer check it under warrenty. or a tranny shop.

In the last 3 pics look by the black cap, to the left of it... doesn't that look like a crack? Or is it just the way the case is casted. Theres oil by it and when I feel it I can feel a bump... but I am not sure. It was soaked in oil, it's only clean because I wiped it up with my finger.

Wouldn't the crack be much larger than that? Also if it's cracked there I still am not sure why there is oil above the crack... unless the seal is bad AND the case is cracked

I hope it's just that... if the case is cracked and I can't get it fixed under warranty it's either bye-bye cobalt or hello jb weld
edit: did some research, looks like if the tranny casing cracks the fluid leaks onto the clutch causing slip... also leaks where the tranny meets the engine, and not on the opposite side where mine is. Leading me to believe axle seal. Again, clutch grabs fine... no slip unless I make it.

Very confident in voting shaft seal. Warranty should cover that np.
If it was a casing crack it probably wouldn't be that high up. Oil on the side generally means the seal.
