cruise control

ok i did some searching and didnt really find anything and if this is a repost im very sorry but i really did use the search and nothing came up

my cruise control doesnt work, but its weird because when i try to activate it sometimes the cruise control on indication comes up in the information center and then goes away in a split second an nothing happens. i read somewhere to lift up on the clutch and see if it comes on (something to do with a clutch sensor) and i tried that still nothing. i cant find a fuse for the cc or anything and im starting to get annoyed lol

please any help would be much appreciated im new to this site and so far i have very much enjoyed my stay

thank you

Is your clutch slipping? Because if you have a slight slip in your clutch it will go off too.

got news for you though, no need to go to a dealership if your clutch goes out...They won't cover it. But it's probably our on and off switch for the cruise.

You can reset it by taking the terminals off your battery for a few mins. It will reset the system. I had this problem several times and the dealer kept saying that I was pressing the clutch and it was messing up the system (I was not pressing the clutch). They reset the system (I got tired of reprogramming all my stations in the radio) and eventually they replaced the cruise control button and I haven't had a problem since.

I would disconnect the battery first and if it happens again then take it to a dealer.

If you have aftermarket taillight/chmsl bulbs that can stop your cruise from working. Sounds weird but trust me.

yes i am aware of that i was actually talking about taking it to the dealer because of the CC. but i dont think my clutch is worn to the point of replacing by far but you are right and maybe that could be the problem

and i feel like a complete jackass for not at least trying to reset the system. thanks lol

this can be caused by a couple of different things:

When the cruise control won't engage, but you see it flash up on the screen real quick it usually means that there is a diagnostic code which is disabling the cruise control from engaging. Not all trouble codes will cause a check engine light. This diagnostic code is set when you 1. ride the clutch (rest your foot on the clutch pedal), 2. You engage the clutch X number of times (I think it is 10 times) without switching gears or 3. The clutch switch is bad.

If you disconnect the battery for 10 minutes then plug it back in and cruise control works, then the code was set due to either #1 or #2.

If cruise control still doesn't work then your brake light switch may not be working (brake lights don't work). Like Acey said, if you put in an aftermarket bulb that isn't right it can cause this issue as well. The cruise control buttons could be stuck or not working right. It could also be the clutch switch itself.

If you haven't changed the bulbs in your tail lights, you can step on the brake and make sure the brake lights are working. If they do work then either it is a problem with the cruise control buttons or the clutch switch. If the clutch switch is the problem you should be able to take the car and have the codes read and look for the clutch switch malfunction code. If it isn't the clutch switch then it is the cruise control buttons themselves, but hopefully it isn't that.

hey guys i just tried that i must not have had the terminals off long enough (5 minutes or so) cuz it did not fix my cruise still flashes its engaged for a split second and then disappears. wierd thing is it did reset my clock but not my stations so im assuming it was not off long enough. ill try again later or after work see what happens....

This has been mentioned before as I have searched for it on this website and found an answer.

Had this same problem 2 days ago, unhooked the battery for about 7 minutes, re-hooked up and we're good to go.

I tried pulling out the battery fuse for about an hour and had no luck. Where is the switch for the brake peddle? Also would slow brake fluid cause the cruise not to work? I cant live with out my cruise control LOL

Do your brake lights work? If they do, it isn't the brake switch. It maybe that the clutch switch is bad. The clutch switch I believe is at the top of the clutch pedal assembly. Just crawl under there and take a look and you should be able to find it.

Yes the brakes lights work. The clutch switch is the white one correct that is by the clutch peddle?

Done worry about it. My cruise control is ok now. I discovered it was the brake peddle that was the issue. I decided to go under the dash and press the brake peddle by and and lift it up back into position. After i did that my cruise control stays on. So for those who are having this problem give this a shot.

unhook both battery terminals and hold them together for 15 seconds. that should reset everything and your cruise control should work. ive done this a few times

to test the clutch sensor push your clutch about halfway down with the car in neutral and try to start it... if it starts then its your sensor if not then your sensor is fine.
