Dealership Inspection
Dealership Inspection
Does any one know about a type of inspection that the dealership does to do a full check on everything? I have about almost 40000 miles and i was speaking to my mother and her honda dealership is offering her a inspection and it got me wondering if i should get it done... Anyone who knows or can give me a ballpark figure....
inspections at a GM dealership should be free
it's GM's policy that every vehicle that is serviced receives the full multi-point GM inspection
riiiiight

Just do the regular maintenance on the car and youll be fine.If you start hearing noises and **** feels loose, then get it checked out. Those 101 check points or whatever you wanna call them are a joke.Do you really think the tech is gonna inspect the whole car over when they only get paid like a half hour to do so?No,they dont.
I guess you never worked in the auto business huh?lol

I've worked at a Chevrolet dealership for almost two years now. Previously Ford.
I don't take my work lightly. I inspect all cars even if they have 3,000 miles. You'd be amazed at the **** I find even under 10k miles.

just bring it in and ask them for their multi-point whenever you get the oil changed or warranty work done
they shouldn't charge you for it
GM requires it now even if the customer comes in for minor things

Are you flat rate or hourly?Do you get a guarantee of atleast 40 hours a week?Techs get paid for the work they produce. When i worked on a car that was still in warantee,im not looking for problems with it.I fix what the customer complained about.Me and 90% of techs do the same thing. Why bust your ass replacing a part under warantee that will take you a few hours, when ur gonna get paid dick under warantee? If its a safety feature like a brake or suspension component, sure ill say something. If its nothing major, its out the door. When i worked for bmw,EVERYTHING was covered under warantee up to like 50,000 miles i believe.Oil changes,Brakes, rotors, wiper blades you name it.When you work on newer cars all day long, your not looking for things wrong with it.Plus bmw warantee pay is a joke. They pay **** for everything you replace.
and thats the probloem with dealerships, the techs dont get payed well enough doing warrenty work (for those that dont know there is book time for warrenty work and non warrenty work, warrenty work is significantly less) so most techs dont mention something wrong thats not a concern of the customers. this allows them to get working on a job thats not warrenty work and were they get paid better.
im a mechanic who works for a transmission shop, and im payed salary. ive seen and talked to enough people in flat rate shops, all i gotta say is no thanks. too much of a cut throat thing, techs will never help each other out, even heard of sabatoging other peoples jobs just to put a tech behind so another tech gets that lucritive high paying job thats waiting to come in the shop.
