Defective Continentals
Defective Continentals
Got a bad set of factory Continentals. They're wearing down three times as fast as a regular set my friend has...I'm at 6500 miles and their tread is down to 40%, with rotations occuring every 1500 miles.
I don't drive very fast at all. And lately the shoulder blocks have been chunking off and also melding into on another, and all the tread blocks themselves are twisting.
Tried to get it covered on warranty and they said to just ride them out until they die since it's a wear item.
Anyone else have this happen to them? I know the TouringContact AS was a meager tire...but mine are just outrageous.

Yeah if your dealer won't take care of you contact Conti. They will want your future business.
I had bad Alpine stereo equipment once. Store wouldn't help me. So Alpine just had me fax them a letter and receipt copy and they sent me new stuff!

The OE fitment Contis are notorious for wearing quickly.
The delaer wont do anything because like was stated its a wear item. Tires just wearing out isnt a defect. During the bumper-to-bumper coverage of your vehicle GM warrants the tires against defects in materials and workmanship, thats it.
They look anything like mine? These have less than 4,000 miles:

continentals are terrible tires. they dont last long at all.
you need to contact a continental tire dealer in your area and get them to pro rate them for you. then get a different set of tires.
the dealer can do nothing about tires. thats the tire manufacturers problem, not theirs.

Its not the tire manufacturers responsibility to cover the tire anymore than its Panasonics responsibility to cover the radio, or NGKs to cover the spark plugs, or Bosch, Valeo, Lear, Delphi, Yakazi, Sumitomo or Arvin Meritor's to cover any of the things things they make on the car. GM assembled the vehicle, GM sells the vehicle, GM warrants the vehicle. DOESNT matter whose name is on the part, GM covers it. /thread

Maybe they're trying to transform into a horrible summer tire?
Thank God my Sportmax 962 rims and Kumho 225/40/17 tires come in on Saturday. So now I have been beating the living crap out of the Conti's. They make good performance tires but geezus christmas the Touring Contact AS are the worst tires I've ever experienced.
I have had the EXACT same problem.... I even started a thread myself discussing the problem. I even went in and talked to the Service Manager, no help what so ever. Its BS that GM puts such SHITTY tires on such a great car...
Haha I'll post em up real soon, gotta get the car cleaned up and get the mounting lubricant off of the tires first. Needs to be lowered...but it'll happen soon. The amount of grip I have now is paramount compared to the factory Contis. And they didn't have my 75 dollar each Kumhos....so they just GAVE me the Eagle GTs for no extra charge!!
