Drivers side 05 ss axel seal install help
Any tips or techniques to getting these axel seals in? Greased the bore and lip of the seal banged one in made sure it was flush yet leaked when I filled trans. Help would be appreciated Im using a socket flush with the outer lip of seal.
No grease on outer lip use lock tight blue ..the part of the seal that connects to the transmission use lock tight blue. There needs to be a seal that won't leak and if it's leaking around the axle then your axle is woar down from the old seal.
Do not use loctite or grease. Lube the metal part of the seal with transmission fluid. Hammer in straight. Boom, done.
Make sure you didn't touch the rubber part of the seal with the axle spline. If you did, you most likely ripped it and need to replace the seal again. GM has a special tool to avoid this contact, but you can get by without it if you're really careful.

cut a 2 x 4 board in a 4" length or so. hold it flat against the seal and hammer it in. i tried using an old seal to hammer the new one in and a large socket, both just bent the new seals. block of wood worked perfect for me

Thi.k i went the woodblock Method too. As well as using trans fluid as lube.
Sucked the because i bent the outer face of mine a bit still somehow, tried my best to just bend it back lol. No leaks yet...

Use an exhaust pipe extension piece so that you aren't hammering the rubber housing. I used a seal driver and bent the outer face which caused a leak after a few hundred miles.
GM also has a special tool for this, of course. Check eBay.
