Exclamation E-Brake Does Not Release

Ok guys, I have browsed all the brake related threads and couldnt find this particular issue.

The car is a 2006 SS/SC. When I apply the Ebrake everything works fine until I go to disengage it. The problem is is the driver side rear does not disengage, so the yoke at the ebrake handle keeps falling off that cable.

I pulled the rear wheel off and poked around some and the arm that the ebrake cable connects to at the caliper does not return to the disengaged position when the ebrake handle is put back down.

Normal braking seems fine, just the ebrake sticks.

Any thoughts before I decide to go to the stealership?

All that's there is a spring which should push that arm back into place, it sounds like it's just sticking. You could probably pull off the wheel and see if a little spray oil in the hinge helps it disengage.

Worst case scenario you need a new caliper - you can get them on car-part.com for like 50 bucks and install it yourself.

The parking brake in our cars is the piston works on a screw, as the cable gets pulled, the screw rotates and pushes the piston out. This set-up has a tendency to seize. If its warranty, take it back, if not, apply the p-brake, disengage it, then tap the lever on the caliper to the release position. Do this a few times and if it's not seized too badly, it should start to work again.

well quick update, did some tinkering with it and the piston operates perfectly fine when using the brake pedal, but when you pull up on the e brake it does not move. I also noticed a tear in the rubber boot around the head of the piston where it meets the brake pads.

any thoughts?
