Engine ticking ...
Engine ticking ...
Ive heard it before but only happens every once ina while ... i was driving today then stoped and it started ticking in and out then started it back up and didnt do it anymore. Then a little while later i was driving for a bit then stoped and it started doing it again. Any idea what it might be? I want to bring it to the dealer but if its not making it when i do then theres no point.
I have had a ticking sound ever since my first oil change. It is a lifter sound. I have taken it back to the dealer three times for this sound and they tell me that it is normal. Not normal on any engine that I know of. I know solid lifters do make a little noise. The oil level is fine. It been there two year now.
Yea i have an s/c ... when I just got home before and let it idle for a min it did it for about 30 seconds then went away ... i never hear it while im driving or rev it up though
At idle there is more slack in the chain than under load or at higher rpm. The tensioner is fed by oil and oil pressure is it's lowest at idle aswell.
"it sounds like a diesel"
that's exactly what mine sounded like. it's the timing chain tensioner.
i always heard it at idle on a hot restart--that is, drive, shut car off for 20 mins, then drive again.

yup. i fixed it myself. the part is about $60 on CED. you need to take the valve cover off and get a 32 mm socket to get the old tensioner off and install the new one. you install the tensioner in its compressed state and release it by striking the tensioner guide from up top. that's why you have to take the valve cover off.
don't listen to people who say you don't have to take the cover off and just start it up and let oil pressure release the new tensioner, unless you want to risk the chain jumping while it's slack. it doesn't take long to take the valve cover off.

Yeah i still have warranty so I might bring it to the dealer but I dont think they'll just do it unless its making the noise .. can this cause any damage if I don't get it fixed?

) and i believe 06 models.
