Excessive Road Noise

I own a 2008 Cobalt LS with Front Disc and Rear Drums which I puchased new. At about 30,000 miles I started to hear a lot of road noise that increased with acceleration an I assumed it was the tires. I checked the tread and I noticed the wear indicators had started to show so I purchsed a set of Goodyear Eagle GTs as a replacement.

I had the tires balanced and installed professionally and was hoping that would fix the problem. It didn't. The road noise is just as bad if not worse (I attribute some of that to the tires tread pattern) and after 10,000 miles it hasn't improved. I notice that the noise grows deeper and louder when I turn the wheel to the right at speed around a corner or on an on/off ramp. Also, there is an odd noise when I turn my steering wheel to the left just slightly at highway speeds. I only have to move it a little to hear the noise which is hard to explain. It's very faint and reminds me of the sound you hear when driving over rumble strips minus the mega vibrations.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Feel free to ask questions since I'm sure I missed something.

Thanks

same here exept mine is only when i turn left between 0-30 mph, i think it might be that plastic cover that covers the wheel, those tend to be really breaky some times

I've checked the wheel wells and everything there is tight. I'm thinking it may be a hub problem, but I've never delt with that before. Idon't want to spend the money replacing it if it's not necessary.

Unhappy

3 year/30,000 miles and I'm at 42,000 I wish I knew of a good way to diagnose the problem.

try having a tire shop check this out they might know, or ask your friends in your area about it and see if they know, other than that im out of ideas

Good luck on it though

I'm on Rockautos website and looking at the Axel Bearing/Hub Assembly and the Wheel Bearing. I know what the axel is, but how does it differ from the wheel bearing.
