Angry Fuel filter removal problem

I've spent 2 hours trying to get the "QUICK DISSCONNECT" lines off my 07 Cobalt Coupe. I just can't seem to insert the proper size plastic tools in the one end of the filter, the tools seem to be 1/4 inch to long. On the end with just 1 line I can't seem to get the tool to disengage the clip lock inside. How can you do this?

The only point to the quick disc. is so that you can push in the four fins that prevent the filter from coming off of the fuel line. Simply push in the plastic tool thing as far as possible and pull the filter from line. Mine was seized on and took some elbow grease to get the bastard off. Took a while but it works.

My issue was that I couldn't slide the plastic piece in far enough which was preventing me from getting the filter off due to the fins preventing the line from coming off.

Filter

My fuel filter is not siezed on I can turn it slighty being careful not to cause so much rotation to break the 2 plastic lines at the other end. Like your's I just can't get the removal tool inserted in far enough to spread the fins in order to release the line. At the other end are two plastice lines connected to the filter. My friend said to pinch them in to release the line, I don't want to break them and end up pulling the gast tank to replace them. I tried pinching the and it not working. On this fourm and other people have said filter change is just a 15 minute jub, yeah right maybe to jack the car up not removing my filter.

Do yourself a favor and spend 5 bucks for the metal disconnect tool. 3/8s....im pretty sure id have to double check but with that tool yes its a 15 minute job, with those garbage quick disconnects maybe 1 hour.

I can get underneath my car without jacking it up and change it, get the right size disconnect tool, jam it in there and pull the filter off, takes a minute to do, get ready for the fuel shower when you get it off as well
