Fuel Gauge

The past two or three fill up's my gas gauge keeps reading about 80% full rather than 100%. My car has about 1650 miles on it and I've never had an issue with this before. Could my gas gauge be broken?

Yes and No. I noticed that when I fill up, depending on the angle/depth I insert the gas nozzle, it clicks off way before the full mark. I find that if you don't insert the nozzle all the way in that this doesn't happen any more and it will fill properly.

Easiest way to tell if it is broken is to run it to the low fuel light comes on the fill it and count the liters/gallons you put in. Compare that to the capacity of the tank and you will have your answer.

Or you may need to have your computer updated. My car did this for the longest time until I had it reprogrammed. It will sometimes read full, or sometimes read 7/8ths. Now it always reads full (When I fill it duh!)

I find with most pumps I have to tilt the handle on a 45 degree angle or the damn thing keeps shutting off. Try giving that a shot and see if it helps...I swear the pump shut off 3 times the other day and I knew there was no way I only needed 35 litres to fill a near empty tank.

I live in New Jersey, no self service stations, so I can't really play with the angle of the pump but next time I fill up I'll check the capacity with how much the pump cuts off at.
