Fuel pump recall done now other problems please help
We were at Tail of the Dragon and my friend smelled the fuel and told me about the recall. The dealer we took it to said it wasn't covered but then found a letter and changed it out anyway. They also changed the gas tank? Saying there was an issue but didn't charge us anything.
We got on the highway heading toward Nashville to visit family. The car started popping and after a few miles we ran out of gas with the gauge reading 1/8 of a tank and digital reading 42 miles left. Didnt know what was wrong put in a gallon started fine ran normal I filled it up and only took 10.5 gallons. There was still 1.5 gallons in the tank the low fuel light clicked on when we ran out.
Took it to another dealer they said maybe the sending unit/ tank level needed to be replaced. It cost us $450 to replace it. Now that we ran the fuel level down it started doing the same thing at 45 miles til empty the car sputters and jerks especially up hill at 40 it will stop sucking up gas.
Is it possible its the wrong tank or fuel pump? I used to run it down to 1/2 gallon left maybe 15 mi til empty. I think the fuel pump isn't sitting low enough.
Something that was free already cost us $450 I hope taking it back isn't going to cost a bunch more. Thanks a lot for your time.

So the tech basically told us we drive the car harder so the gas mileage is worse and "new cars don't stay new forever!" He is too dumb to be a tech and he left early without talking to us again.
I don't know whats so hard to understand the mechanical gauge and digital gauge and tank all seem to say or have 1.25 to 1.5 gallons of gas. The fuel pump stops picking it up and it runs out of gas. Either the tank is deeper than before or the fuel pump is shorter. The service lady understood but then said well maybe thats just the way its going to be from now on.

a good friend just got all this done. He was smelling fuel and it would not start up on the first try, but every time it would start up on the second time. the replaced the fuel pump and he's had no problems since. Sorry to hear about your misfortune hope they can figure it out.
