Gas Tank Sensor Problem
I just purchased a 2006 Cobalt LT in October. Since then, I have noticed that my gas gauge does not state the correct amount of gas in the tank. Other times it would drop almost a quarter of a tank while driving down the road. Several times, I would start the car knowing I had well over a half tank and the needle would stay on Empty and the "low fuel" warning would appear. I took it in to the dealer and they stated that the "sending unit" in the gas tank was bad and needed to be replaced. Therefore, I have to wait another week for the part to come in and take it back to the dealer. All that aside, has anyone had a similiar problem???
I found the fix....

My fuel gauge isn't spot on either. It stays at or above full for the longest time, then it seems to plummet rather quickly. Then one day I was really low on gas and it was a smidge below red line. When I went to the pumps it showed I had 2.5 gallons left...
I had that happen to me too. It was always about a quarter of a tank off. THe Low Fuel warning would come on, but then when I turned off the car, turned it back on, it would say I had about a quarter of a tank left. Took it to the dealer and now its fixed.
I have the same issue on my 06 SS/sc from new. When Im filling up with the car still on, the gauge will not register full until I turn off the ignition and restart.
Now at 800miles on the car, it finally went to full all by itself.
gofigure.

Well the 2006 SS 2.4L has the same problem. My gas guage is 1/8 of a tank off (at least) and will never go to full.
I have discussed it with my dealer, and we all agree it is a PCM issue. However, the fix for the 2005 does not work on the 2006. Mine is the first case they have seen, but i have heard of other 2006's with this problem. A service notice was sent to GM, but unless there are more cases documented, there will be no fix like the 2005s.
So, anyone with a 2006 that has gas gauge issues, please go to the dealership and report the problem, so GM will get the information and release a PCM update.
BTW, they checked my PCM it is the most current version/calibration for the 2006...I will start a new thread for the numbers that list the current calibration.
