gauge replacement on LT

Is it possible to change the factory black gauges that came on my 06 LT to the white face gauges also on some of the LT's but on the SS model? I have seen them everywhere for sale but do I have to flash the ECM or can i just uninstall and reinstall the white face ones?

You could check out blackcatcustoms.com. They do a lot of custom gauge work for our cars.

i tried to respond before but it wouldn't let me
yeah its the computer. it won't recognize the new gauges so they won't work. i knew someone was gonna suggest overlays. thats really all we can do. but they aren't nearly as cool as the white face gauges with the way they glow and also how they go up to 140.
those gauges look so good illumintaed but we got no chance

I didnt feel like messing with it, black cat actually gives you directions to do it yourself, but i just took it to my dealer cuz i had to go there for something else anyways, only cost 40 bucks or something and saved me the hastle, good luck with it

Black Cats aren't overlays. they are new faces. Read the instructions. you have to completely take out the stock face and put the new one in.

Here is the deal. The gauge clusters have their own flash PROM chip in them. They are comtrolled by the ECM. If you put in a different cluster other then the kind that came with your car, the ECM won't be able to talk to it.

Now, I got to thinking about this issue lately with a development in the SAI issue. We found out that there is a software switch in the ECM program that allows you to turn off SAI parameters. Awesome news for those that have it, though I have yet to actually see it. It made me think, since I have the same ECM in my Cobalt (e16a) as people with the black faced 120 MPH gauge, perhaps there is also a simple switch in the software for that too?

This is actually something I want to look into at the upcoming CED meet. It will be at a Chevy dealership, where the guys let us play with ideas. I'm hoping to get a tech with a Tech2 to plug into my car and see just what all can actually be done, like changing tire sizes for speedo calibrations.

the 140 guage cluster comes with the SS/NA models and the 2.2's that came with the sport package.
