So here's the set up..

Ebay blackout OEM style headlights, aftermarket harnesses, Nokya bulbs, Silverstar corners..

So, lately, my headlights have been acting up.. The bulbs have been extra dim. But still on. I went to mess with them today and the one wire from the harness that plugs directly into the high/low bulb its self actually came out. It was fried. I now am down one headlight, and I'm sure the other will act up later now too..

Few questions then..

1) Can you replace the harness that plugs into the corner and high/low?

2) What is the extra wiring that connects to the headlight its self, placed directly between the corner and the high/low? Its 3 wires and a rectangle rubber plug.. How do you emove this? I'm afraid of breaking it..

3) Will the HID kit fix this issue? That seems to replace the harness and the bulb..

4) The HID kit easy to install into our cars?

5) Can you use an OEM harness in aftermarket housings?

6) How much is an OEM harness as necessary?

Please help! If it wasn't for my fogs I'd be screwed. lol Help!

 

If these are oem style lights I am wondering if they even need that harness. Are they not a direct plug-in to the factory harness?

 

The full harness did not actually go bad after analyzing the situation more.. Just the sockets for the main lights (highs and lows).. I posted that from my phone in trying to figure it out.. The sockets that are bad are in an easily replaceable harness.. I'm going to the dealership now to see ow much they are.. If the whole harness is too much (just the part that plugs from the main loom and splits it into 3 (corner, marker, high/low), then I'll just try to buy the socket separately and splice it in myself.. I'll keep you updated..

 

it sounds like a ground issue. If the lights are dim that typically points to a grounding issue...

I"d be checking junk yards before you go to the dealership. Installing an HID kit will not correct the issues because you have to plug the HID kit into the wiring harness you feel is defective...

 

The problem is in the splitter type cord section on the top, not the main one that goes to the full harness.. One of the cords is literally out of the socket.. If you saw it'd make perfect sense..

So I went to the dealership.. It was like 130 for 1 harness, or 200 for the harness with a headlight. lol. Yeah.. Right..

Then I went to Advance.. Nothing..

So I'm gonna post up a WTB for a set of lights / lights with harnesses and then check out Craigslist / eBay.. We'll see how it goes..

 

you can get "pigtails" from the dealer
they are pre-wired connectors, available for ~99% of the connectors in any given later model gm

 

I went there first. They wanted to sell me the whole set, light and all. That's the only way they sell it.. Kinda ridiculous.

 

if you have a friend that works at a dealer ask him to ask around his shop and see if any of the other tech's have any of the harness'. me and my guys whenever we switch out the headlights we keep the harness' as that is the only way to get them. i used to have like 10 of them but ended up using them on vehicles at the shop.

 

Can you use 9004 sockets for a 9007? It looks the exact same. I don't even care if it's slightly more dim. I just need light at this point. I can make other arrangments later.

 

i believe so, i think the difference is in the wattage of the bulb

 

Cool. Can anyone else validate this? I believe the one tuning shop said they had 9004 sockets. They just didn't have 9007's.. Again, I don't even care if they're less bright.. I just need lights for now. Then, I can order the right ones online and install them when they come in so they're the proper 9007 ones instead of the lower output ones..

Also, anyone use the "high-output adapters"? You know, the ones that are basically a male to female socket that converts your basic socket to be safely used with higher heat aftermarket bulbs? That was what caused this anyway.. I'll just go buy those adapters too..

 

Found a set of high-output sockets. Did them up. Worked. Fixed!! Thanks!
