Help with my antenna

First of all i want to say I searched for this and found nothing.

Ok, today I tried to install a short antenna. When i was going to take the old one off, it unscrewed a little bit, then it sounded like something broke. The antenna won't loosen anymore, and just spins to the left forever. Is there anyway to fix this, or will I have to take it to the dealership?

if its under warranty take it to the dealer.....say you were taking it off for a car wash and the bracket broke (thats whats broken by the way) or you can tear it apart and fix it....either way its up to you

Thanks for the quick help guys, but I won't be able to deny this to the dealership. I scraped away most of the paint on the antenna from twisting it with a wrench. So, how would i be able to take it apart?

not to be a dick but i can see that as being the only "legitimate" reason for taking off the antenna...right before a car wash but i guess your right its better to say "one day i saw it was broken"

i would go in and use the car wash excuse since it's obvious you did something to it. worse case you have to fix it yourself.

Go this way. I might have to steal this idea. there are no good radio stations in my area so I just have my iPod plugged in all the time.

I don't know what your situation is and how the antenna looks, but I would just pry it off with a hacksaw piece by piece.

I didn't have to cut mine, I just wanted mine OFF, so I took a washcloth and put it around the base of the antenna and used pliers to pry it off. It was a BITCH to get off...

This...nipple... you can buy from Auto Zone, Advanced Auto, really anywhere. THey are vacuum caps. I forgot which size I used, but they come in like a 6 pack for $3. Couldn't find any loose ones.

The base of your antenna is a bolt that sticks up out of the quarterpanel. Just find the right size vacuum cap out of the pack and screw it on. DONE I should made a how-to lol

I am guessing that you broke the antenna base off the mount inside the trunk. I am guessing what you are going to need to do is go into the trunk where the antenna is and grab the base with a pliers or something and then continue to unscrew the antenna. There is a good chance that it will snap the threads off your antenna base. You can get a new one from gm for around 25.

Here's some pictures of what it looks like. I tried a wrench at the base and the strongest person I know using a wrench to twist the antenna, but it wouldnt budge at all.

Just the stem should twist off. WHere it looks like you tried turning it before.

Keep going it took me quite a few minutes before it actually came loose and I was able to turn it by hand. Sometimes the rust and you have to break it loose.

I hope you weren't trying to turn the big thing at the bottom lol.

Haha no i was using the bottom as a grip to twist the stem. The problem is the entire things spins around instead of what needs to be unscrewed.

I wouldn't know what to do. Probably hacksaw it off. If you want to do what I did and put the vacuum cap on, don't cut too close to the base of the antenna (where you originally tried to screw it off)

I don't know why it's spinning...

If your installing a shoter antenna, and still plan to use it with the car's radio, does the shorter one come with a lil coil at the end?

It's probably for universal fitting. If that one that came inside of the antenna was too big/small, you would take that one out and put the one that fits in.

Ok my dealership said it would be $50 for parts, and $100 for labor, and that's out of the question. Is there ANY way I can get this thing off, preferably just the antenna.

You're making this harder than it needs to be. You already broke the silver base off the bracket and have it pulled out...pull the antenna wire out from the base and throw the whole thing away. The wire just pulls out but you may need to spray some lube in there..I did. The bracket, silver base and male end is sold as one piece from the dealer for $25 bucks. When you put your new antenna on use some rust inhibitor so this doesn't happen again.
